Hello, dear readers! I’m Agatha Downs, a lifelong lover of cozy mysteries, charming small towns, and a good cup of tea.
If you’re anything like me, you adore a good whodunit with a dash of humor, a sprinkle of romance, and a setting so vivid you feel like you could step right into it. That’s exactly what I set out to create in my cozy mystery series set in Cowesport, Ireland.
My Inspiration Behind Cowesport & Cozy Mysteries
Cowesport is a blend of every charming, windswept coastal town I’ve ever fallen in love with—moody skies, gossipy pubs, and a community where everyone knows everyone’s business (whether they want to or not). I’ve always been drawn to stories where the setting becomes a character in itself, and I knew Cowesport had to be a place filled with secrets, quirky traditions, and a rich history that sometimes refuses to stay buried.
Cozy mysteries have always been my comfort read. There’s something so satisfying about an amateur sleuth putting the pieces together, outsmarting the authorities (much to their exasperation), and solving a mystery with wit and determination. When I started crafting Cordelia and Brody’s story, I knew I wanted to bring that same sense of intrigue, warmth, and fun to my books.

Favorite Mystery Novels
Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple stories, anything by Louise Penny, and the classic Nancy Drew books.
Cordelia & Brody
Cordelia popped into my head fully formed—sassy, sharp, and slightly chaotic. Brody took a little longer, but I knew he needed to be her perfect foil: serious, steady, and just the right amount of exasperated.
Dream Writing Day
A rainy afternoon, a pot of Earl Grey, a crackling fire, and Petunia curled up beside me.
Old Cliff Manor
The inspiration for The Old Manor on the Cliffs came from an actual abandoned estate I visited while traveling. I always wondered what stories its walls could tell…

Petunia: The True Star of the Show
Every cozy mystery author needs a sidekick, and mine just happens to be a small but mighty Papillon named Petunia (or Tuni, as she’s affectionately known).
- Writing Assistant: She’s usually found curled up next to me while I’m writing, occasionally demanding attention (or a snack break). I like to think she’s helping me brainstorm.
- Personality: Equal parts mischief and snuggles. She keeps me on my toes (and my keyboard dusted with tiny paw prints).
- Cowesport Cameo: Yes, Petunia inspired Cordelia’s own sidekick, Tuni! If there’s one thing she excels at, it’s stealing hearts and sneaking treats.
